Construction of the July Martyrs Monument, built to honour the martyrs of the July uprising, has been completed in Natore.

The monument, located in front of the Government Public Library in the town, will be inaugurated by housing and public works adviser Adilur Rahman Khan on Saturday.


Nineteen feet high and six feet in diameter, the main structure of the monument is engraved with popular slogans of the mass uprising on it.

The names of the eight martyrs in Natore, who died in the uprising, were also engraved on the iron cover of the concrete base.

Ministry of housing and public works constructed the monument at the initiative of the ministry of cultural affairs.

Amit Kumar Deb, the executive engineer of the Natore district public works department, said that the construction was completed properly while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Natore deputy commissioner Asma Shahin said that with the cooperation of the people of Natore, they were able to select the location for the memorial in the heart of the city.

‘We finished the construction within the shortest possible time,’ she added.
