Detective Branch of the police has arrested three accused in a case filed on charges of robbery at a house of an expatriate and raping his wife at Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali.

The arrestees were identified as Kawsar, Ashish Gain and Ripon Sohag.


Police arrested them nearly two months after the incident. They also recovered the looted mobile phone during the drive.

Patuakhali additional superintendent of police (Bauphal circle) Arif Md Sakuur disclosed the information at a press briefing at the police superintendent鈥檚 office Friday noon.

Police picked up Kawsar from Maheshpur in Jhenaidah on Wednesday, Ripon Sohag from a slum in Darus Salam area in the capital Dhaka and Ashish Gain from Kalapara municipality area in Patuakhali on Thursday.

He said that the incident took place on the night of July 14 at the house of the US expatriate at Paschim Badurtali village under Tiakhali union at Kalapara.

The robbers first tied up the expatriate, his mother and sister before looting cash, gold ornaments and a mobile phone. Later, they took the expatriate鈥檚 wife to a room and raped her.

The following day, a case was filed with the Kalapara police station. Since then, police and the district Detective Branch had been conducting joint drives to nab the suspected criminals.

Kalapara police station officer-in-charge Jewel Islam said that the arrestees confessed to their involvement in the incident during initial interrogation.

Further investigation is going on and drives are under way to arrest the remaining accused, he added.
