Five people, including a child, were injured after a truck hit two battery-run rickshaws in Dhaka鈥檚 Mouchak area Friday afternoon.
The accident took place at around 4:15pm at the Mouchak point.
The injured are Nurul Haque Hadi, Eva Akter, rickshaw pullers Tariqul and Faridul Islam, and an unidentified child.
Police and witnesses said that a truck of Chinese Sino Hydro Company, coming from Malibagh Railgate, lost control after its brakes failed and hit a rickshaw in front. The rickshaw was crushed under the truck.
The speeding truck then hit another rickshaw, leaving its driver injured.
The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Pedestrians rushed the injured to a nearby hospital.
The child, who suffered a broken leg, was admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
An officer of Mouchak traffic police box confirmed the incident.
