The government has formed a three-member inquiry commission, led by High Court Division judge Justice Md Ali Reza, to investigate the attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur.
The Cabinet Division on Thursday night issued a notification in this regard.
The other members of the inquiry commission are the senior secretary of the Home Ministry and the Principal Staff Officer from the Armed Forces Division.
The commission has been asked to submit an investigation report to the government within 30 working days.
The government has formed the inquiry commission under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1956.
The commission has been entrusted with the tasks of identifying the individuals responsible for the attack on Nur on August 29 and making recommendations on taking legal action against them.
The commission was also asked to recommend ways to prevent such undesirable incidents in the future.
Nur, also former vice-president of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union, has been undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday directed the health ministry to take measures for sending Nurul Haque Nur abroad for better treatment.
Yunus passed the directive after Nur’s wife Maria Akter, along with Gono Odhikar general secretary Rashed Khan, met with him at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital and urged him to send Nur abroad for better treatment.
On August 29, violence broke out when a procession of the Gono Odhikar Parishad was passing by the Jatiya Party’s central office in Kakrail, triggering a clash.
Following the clash, members of the army and police allegedly attacked leaders and activists of the Gono Odhikar Parishad near their own office on the opposite side of the road. Nur was waiting to hold a press briefing in front of his own office, when joint forces swooped on him and his supporters.
Nur, who suffered injuries in the head and nose in the attack, was shifted to a cabin from the DMCH intensive care unit on Monday.
