
Leaders of the Democratic Rights Committee on Thursday alleged that the interim government was acting like the fascist Awami League government which was ousted on August 5, 2024, in a mass uprising.
In a press statement, they alleged that the interim government was taking anti-worker, anti-women, anti-minority and anti-democratic roles in the country.
The Democratic Rights Committee condemned the killing of an apparel worker by law enforcers in the Uttara Export Processing Zone in Nilphamari on September 2.
The statement alleged that mob violence continued in the country ‘with the support or inaction’ of the interim government.
At Taraganj in Rangpur, van pullers Ruplal Das and Pradip Das were killed brutally and at Gangachara in Rangpur sectorial attacks occurred in which Hindu minority people were affected and the interim government had failed to give them protection, the leaders of the rights platform alleged.
They said that people were deprived of their democratic rights.
Moreover, the government recently failed to take proper steps to control incidents at Chattogram University and Bangladesh Agriculture University, they alleged, referring to the CU students-villagers clash and the BAU students-outsiders clash.
They said that after the fall of Sheikh Hasina, cases were filed without considering justification and merits and the confined people were deprived of getting bails.
They called on the interim government to take steps to stop mob violence, killing of workers and anti-women activities immediately.
The signatories to the statement are central leaders of the committee, Anu Muhammad, Samina Lutfa Nitra, Harun Ur Rashid, Maha Mirza, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed and Marzia Prova.
