Former national team captain Minhajul Abedin Nannu confirmed his intention to contest in the forthcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board elections on Wednesday.
He cited the long-standing concerns about the limited opportunities for qualified individuals within the governing body of cricket in Bangladesh.Ìý
‘This is a place where many capable people cannot even get in,’ Minhajul told reporters on Wednesday in Mirpur.
‘Working for the interest of cricket here is a huge responsibility. If I get the opportunity, I will try to make the most of it wherever it comes.’
The BCB has recently confirmed that it will hold its elections in the first week of October, while the current president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, also confirmed his intention of contesting in the polls.Ìý
Minhajul, who served as the national chief selector, indicated that he would target Category C for the former captains.Ìý
He said, ‘I have been considering contesting the BCB elections for some time. Former captains have a Category C seat. While I am still awaiting full details, I remain positive. If everything goes smoothly, I will contest.’
He also said that his decades of experience could be valuable in guiding BCB’s governance and helping the development of cricket in the country.
‘Since retiring, I have worked in various capacities and seen how the game has progressed over the past three to four decades. I hope to put that experience to good use,’ he added.
