The Internal Resources Division has suspended assistant tax commissioner Jannatul Ferdous for allegedly accepting a bribe of Tk 38 lakh in exchange for handing over sensitive income tax records.
According to an IRD order issued on Monday, Jannatul Ferdous, posted at Tax Zone-5 in Dhaka, was found to have received the money from Salah Uddin Ahmed’s nominated representative —a tax lawyer — to release a significant portion of the taxpayer’s previous income tax documents.
The documents reportedly handed over include old income tax returns, order sheets, assessment orders, appellate tribunal rulings, and other key records.
The order, signed by IRD secretary and National Board of Revenue chairman Abdur Rahman Khan, stated that departmental proceedings have been initiated against her.
In line with Rule 12 of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, Jannatul Ferdous has been made an officer on special duty at the NBR during her suspension period and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per the rules.
