A delegation from the Chinese Centre for Language Education and Cooperation paid a courtesy call on the chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, Professor SMA Faiz, at the UGC in Dhaka on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by UGC members Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Professor Masuma Habib, Professor Mohammad Ayub Islam, UGC secretary Md Fakhrul Islam, international cooperation department director (current charge) Jesmin Pervin, Dhaka University professor and vice-president of Bangladesh-China Alumni Association Mohammad Moinul Islam, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology professor and general secretary of ABCA Md Sahabul Haque, said a press release.


The seven-member delegation of CLEC was led by the institution’s deputy director Qian Tianqi.

He said that the use of Chinese language in the world was increasing day by day to strengthen relations with China in the country’s economic and technological development.

‘Currently, Chinese language is being taught in 190 countries. There is a great interest in learning Chinese among the young generation of Bangladesh,’ he said, adding, ‘Language skills will be helpful in studying in China and getting high-paying jobs.’

Qian Tianqi also said that they were interested in working with universities in Bangladesh to promote Chinese language education and culture.

He expected UGC’s cooperation in introducing Chinese language as a major course in universities in this country, and proposed to provide Chinese language education with the help of skilled teachers from Bangladesh.

He also expressed hope of signing a memorandum of understanding with UGC soon to promote Chinese language education and culture.

UGC chairman said that the proposal of teaching Chinese language in the country’s universities was very positive. He said that he will soon discuss with the relevant parties to implement this proposal of China.
