The police have arrested an elderly man allegedly for raping a three-year-old girl in Ashulia.
The accused, Abdus Samad, 70, of Naldanga upazila in Natore, was arrested at a house in the Bogabari Bazaar area of Ashulia Tuesday night.
According to locals, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when a group of children went to Samad鈥檚 rented home while playing.
After some time, all the children except the victim left the premises. Later, the accused brought the child back to her mother.
Meanwhile, the mother noticed unusual behavior in her child and discovered the truth of the assault.
Following the crime, the accused went into hiding.
Enraged locals detained Abdus Samad and handed him over to the police.
Officer-in-charge of the Ashulia Police Station Abdul Hannan said that legal proceedings over the case were underway.
