The Supreme Judicial Council has completed its final hearing on allegations of misconduct against Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman and is preparing to submit its report to the president, according to a press release issued by Supreme Court spokesperson Mohammad Shafiqul Islam on Tuesday.
The council is also scheduled to hold its final hearing on September 2 regarding another misconduct allegation against Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar of the High Court Division.
The SJC launched a full investigation into Justice Akhtaruzzaman in March 2025.
Both Khurshid and Akhtaruzzaman are among 12 High Court judges who were temporarily barred from judicial duties by chief justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on October 21, 2024.
The decision followed student-led protests demanding action against alleged judicial bias.
Three other judges 鈥擩ustice Naima Haider, Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif, and Justice SM Maniruzzaman, remain under SJC review.
Nine judges from the original list of 12 have either been removed, resigned, or not retained through the SJC process. Of them, Justice Khizir Hayat and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman have been removed, Justice Shahed Nuruddin, Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury, and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque have resigned, and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das retired during inquiry.
The jobs of Justice SM Maud Hossain Dolan and Justice Md Aminul Islam were not regularised by the interim government.
