A government doctor on Tuesday told the International Crimes Tribunal-1 that victims of the July 2024 mass uprising appeared to have been shot from above — possibly from a high-rise building or a helicopter.
Mustaq Ahmed, a resident surgeon at Dhaka Medical College, testified as the 27th prosecution witness in the crimes against humanity case against deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, both absconding in India, and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, who later became an approver.
Mustaq, who was a medical officer during the July uprising, said maximum victims told him they were shot in the head, and the bullets exited through their backs — suggesting the shots came from a higher position.
‘In previous cases I treated, bullets typically entered from below and moved upward,’ Ahmed told the tribunal. ‘But in these cases, the direction was clearly from top to bottom.’
The victims’ accounts supported his assessment, he added.
The doctor said that they were brought to him between July 19–21, 2024’and August 4–5, 2024.
