
The chief justice, Syed Refaat Ahmed, on Tuesday administered oath of offices of 25 newly appointed additional High Court judges.
Names of newly appointed judges from the Supreme Court Bar Association are — Md Anwarul Islam Shahid, Raziuddin Ahmed, Faisal Hasan Arif, Md Asif Hasan, Md Ziaul Haque, Fatema Anowar, Abdur Rahman, Syed Hasan Jobaer and Urmi Rahman.
Names of appointed judges from the lower judiciary are — Md Saiful Islam, additional secretary, law ministry; Md Nurul Islam, Chattogram district and sessions judge; law secretary Sheikh Abu Taher, Supreme Court registrar general and senior district judge Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, joint secretary and senior district judge SM Saiful Islam, Hobiganj district and sessions judge Jesmin Ara Begum, Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission secretary and district judge Murad-A-Mawla Sohel, Dhaka district and sessions judge Md Zakir Hossain and solicitor and senior district judge Md Rafizul Islam.
Names of appointed judges from the interim government’s legal team (deputy attorneys general) — are Dihidar Masum Kabir, Md Monjur Alam, Md Lutfor Rahman, Rezaul Karim, Mahmudul Hasan, AFM Saiful Karim, and SM Iftekhar Uddin Mahamud.
This is the first batch of High Court appointments made through the Judicial Appointment Council, which was formed under the Supreme Court Appointment Ordinance, 2025 passed by the interim government.
The number of High Court judges has risen to 113 following the latest appointments.
In October 2024 the interim government appointed for the first time a total of 23 additional HC judges after a total of 12 High Court judges sent on leaves after the Sheikh Hasina government was ousted following the July 2024 mass uprising.
