Three people, including a woman, were killed and five others were injured in a head-on collision between a three-wheeler and a pickup van on Khulna-Satkhira highway at Dumuria upazila in Khulna district on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as easybike driver Mohammad Zahidul Modol, 25, son of Rafiqul Islam of village Kharasda, passengers Rina Khatun, 36, of village Uttar Kalikapur, and Mohammad Rustom Ali Khan, 65, of village Bagdari. They all hailed from Dumuruia upazila.
Highway police and fire service said the Chuknagar-bound pickup van lost control and rammed into the three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction in Jilerdanga area at about 8:45am.
The accident left Rina and Rustom dead on the spot and six others injured, according to them.
Of them, driver Zahidul died from his injuries on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
Md Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Dumuria Police Station, said legal measures were underway in this regard.
