The Chattogram Metropolitan Police on Friday withdrew sub-inspector Shahin Bhuiyan from duty as a video showing him taking bribes from a lawyer inside a courtroom office went viral on social media.
The police officer, Shahin Bhuiyan, was working as a general recording officer at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Chattogram Court.
CMP additional deputy commissioner (media) Mahmuda Begum said, ‘A police officer has been withdrawn from his duties on Friday following allegations of bribery.’
‘He has been attached to the police lines. A formal investigation will be carried out and necessary actions will follow based on the findings,’ she added.
In the 32-second viral video, Shahin is seen seated in his office on the second floor of the court building, where a lawyer appears to hand him three banknotes from a wallet. The officer counts the money and places it in his possession, while a third individual secretly recorded the scene on a mobile phone.
