
Bangladesh Navy’s Rinky Biswas set a new national record in the women’s 3,000-metre race, following her success in the 5000-metre during the National Summer Athletics Championships 2025 at the National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.Â
Rinky clocked 10:27.60 seconds to cross the 3,000m distance and break her previous record of 10:43:30 seconds from 2021.
Navy’s Priya Akter (10:47.10 seconds) and Army’s Priti Akther (10:54.00 seconds) finished second and third in the event, respectively.Â
Earlier on the opening day on Friday, Rinky set a new national record in the women’s 5,000m race by clocking 18:20 seconds. She broke the previous record of 18:49:31 seconds set by her team-mate Shamsunnahar Ratna in 2024.
Priya (18:30 seconds) and Priti (18:40 seconds) finished second and third.
Army’s Tanvir Faisal retained the men’s 110-metre hurdles title for the third consecutive time while his team-mate Rokshana Begum defended the women’s 100-metre hurdles title.
Tanvir clocked 14.70 seconds to cross the distance while Navy’s Sohel Rana (16.00 seconds) and Bangladesh Police’s Habibullah (16.40 seconds) finished second and third, respectively.
Rokshana took 15.00 seconds to finish top, followed by her team-mate Sumaya Zaman (15.10 seconds) and Tasmian Hossain (15.40 seconds) of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan, in second and third places.
Army’s Najimul Hossain Roni retained the men’s 400-metre hurdles title, finishing in 52.30 seconds, which was 01.46 seconds more than his previous national record.
Army’s Masud Rana (53.00 seconds) and Rabiul Hasan (53.60 seconds) of Bangladesh Air Force finished second and third.
Among others, Navy’s Jafrin Akter (38.69-metre) won gold in the women’s discus throw, while her team-mate Golam Sorowar (15.09-metre) secured gold in the men’s shot put.
Bangladesh Army athletes maintained the top position in the medals table with a total of 46 medals – 18 gold, 16 silver, 12 bronze – followed by Navy with 29 medals – nine gold, 11 silver, nine bronze.
Bangladesh Police won one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, placing third. They are followed by Bangladesh Jail (one silver, one bronze), BKSP (two silver, two bronze), Air Force (two silver, two bronze), and Noakhali District Sports Association (one silver, one bronze).
A total of 28 events have been completed over the two days of the competition.
