A leader of Juba dal, youth wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in the Atharo Mile area under Dumuria in Khulna on Friday night.

The deceased, Shamim Hossain, 33, joint convener of Islamiakati union unit Juba Dal under Tala in Satkhira.


The police later detained two suspects in connection with the killing.

The arrested are Ijazul Islam, 43, of Monirampur’s Kondalpur village; and Shariful Islam Sardar, 38, of Balarampur village under Tala.

Law enforcers recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.

According to people of the area Shamim, son of Gaffar Sheikh, lived at Aatharo Mile under Dumuria since childhood and previously worked as a motorcycle mechanic at the local market.

His mother Rashida Begum claimed that outsiders frequently visited their house at night for drug abuse.

‘That night, Ijazul and Shariful came as usual. I do not know why they killed my son,’ she said.

Shamim’s wife, Fatema Akter Brishti, alleged that he was addicted to drugs despite repeated warnings from the family. She said that her husband was killed sometime between 10:30pm and 11:00pm.

Officer-in-charge of Dumuria police station Mohammad Masud Rana said that Shamim was murdered while allegedly under the influence of drugs. ‘Two suspects are in custody for interrogation.’
