Nurul Hasan and Saif Hassan were recalled to the Bangladesh national T20 squad as the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 16-member team for the forthcoming Asia Cup on Friday.

The same squad will also play a three-match T20 series against the Netherlands, starting on August 30 in Sylhet.

Nurul, the wicketkeeper-batter, played his last of the 46 T20Is in November 2022 in the T20 World Cup.

He is currently leading the Bangladesh ‘A’ side playing in the Top End T20 Series in Australia. The 31-year-old has been in discussion to make a comeback for a while.

Saif is somewhat of a surprise call. The top-order batter has played just five T20 internationals, three of them at the Asian Games for a second-string side. His inclusion came after recent form in the Global Super League and the Top End T20.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz were axed from the squad that played against Pakistan.

Mehidy, however, was named in the standby list along with Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam, and Hasan Mahmud for the Asia Cup.

The upcoming Asia Cup will be held in the United Arab Emirates next month. Bangladesh are slotted in Group B with Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.

Squad: Liton Das (Captain), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain, Saif Hassan, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Saifuddin
