Gazipur Agricultural University on Thursday organised a tree planting campaign as part of its 50-year master plan to create a green, clean and environmentally sustainable campus.

This initiative marks a step towards integrating education with environmental stewardship, sustainability and intergenerational ecological balance, said a press release.


The event began with a rally led by vice-chancellor Professor GKM Mustafizur Rahman, with enthusiastic participation from faculty, students, officers and staff.

The rally symbolised the university鈥檚 commitment to environmental consciousness.

Following the rally, the VC inaugurated the campaign by planting a Bakul tree, joined by pro鈥揤C Professor M Moynul Haque, treasurer Professor Md Safiul Islam Afrad, registrar Md Abdullah Mridha and other senior university officials, including deans, directors and members of the Tree Plantation and Environment Day Committee.

A brief discussion session was held, chaired by Professor Nasrin Akter Ivy, where speakers emphasised the critical role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and mitigating the impacts of climate change.

The VC highlighted the university鈥檚 focus on green infrastructure, solar energy and sustainable waste management, noting, Tree planting campaign 2025 is a milestone in realising our long-term vision.鈥濃

He added, 鈥楪AU is a vibrant institution and nature must remain at the core of its vitality.鈥

The programme concluded with the distribution of environmental awareness materials and plantation guidelines among participants.
