A youth was hacked to death in Narsingdi sadar upazila on Wednesday allegedly by his housemate, while another was killed in a clash over land dispute in Monohordi upazila.

One of the deceased, Mozammel, 23, son of Chan Miya of Ballavpur village in Charsubuddi union of Raipur upazila of the district, used to work at a local cloth shop.


According to the police and local people, Mozammel was standing in front of Medina Workshop in Hajipur village, near the Narsingdi municipality town, at about 10:30am when he was attacked allegedly by his housemate Kawsar.

After stabbing him in the neck from behind Kawsar fled the scene, they said.聽

Local people took critically injured Mozammel to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Narsingdi Model Police officer-in-charge Emdadul Haque said that victim Mozammel and Kawsar lived together in a rented house in Hajipur village and worked at a cloth shop in a market in Narsingdi town.

The two men were reported to have serious altercations in the recent past over some matters not known to anyone so far, the police officer said.

Filing of a case was underway after which an investigation and a drive to arrest the killer would be launched, the OC said.聽

In another incident, a man named Jewel Mia, 38, was killed and his wife Rina Begum, 28, was seriously injured in a clash over land disputes at Atushal village of Barachapa union in Monohordi.

According to local people, Jewel Mia first had an argument with his uncle Tara Mia and cousins on Wednesday afternoon over cutting a tree sapling.

At one point, enraged Tara Mia and his sons hacked Jewel and his wife Rina with sharp weapons.

Locals rescued them in serious condition and took them to Monohardi Upazila Health Complex and from there they shifted Jewel to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, but he died on the way.

Monohardi police officer-in-charge Abdul Jabbar said that the killing happened over land dispute and they arrested a man.

Preparations were underway to file a case in this regard, he added.
