
Bangladesh Medical University vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shahinul Alam on Wednesday said that all employees, officials and medical officers should play an important role in the development of outpatient services of the BMU.
‘Effective, compassionate and patient-centring services should be ensured through cooperation and professionalism. All concerned should work together to develop OPD as a model of excellent medical service,’ He said at an exchange of views at the BMU in Dhaka, said a press release.
He said this in a presentation on ‘world-class healthcare: current and steps to be taken’ on the outpatient department activities of the university.Â
In order to make the outpatient department services of BMU more advanced and patient-friendly, this exchange service was organised with all the medical officers, officials, senior staff nurses, employees, and outsourcing employees working in the Outpatient Department 1 and 2 of the university in consultation with the university administration.
Regarding the role of medical staff and medical officers engaged in medical services, the VC mentioned that the role of OPD staff was to establish first contact with the patient and reduce confusion by providing correct instructions.
‘They should maintain discipline, cleanliness and compassion. Medical officers should set an example through professionalism and honesty,’ he said, adding that they should diagnose diseases correctly and provide timely treatment.
BMU pro-VC for administration Professor Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, treasurer Professor Dr Nahrin Akhtar, registrar Professor Dr Md Nazrul Islam, chairperson of the department of physical medicine Professor Dr Md Abdus Shakur and hospital Director Brigadier General Abu Noman Mohammad Mosleh Uddin, among others, were present at the meeting.
