The police have arrested three alleged muggers from the Aricha Launch Ghat area in Shibalaya upazila of Manikganj in connection with a gold snatching incident.
The arrested are Hasib Siddiqui Sajal, 42, Shahjahan, 44, and Israfil, 45.
The three men were held in a special drive in the Aricha Ghat area on Tuesday morning, said Shibalaya police officer-in-charge Kamal Hossain.聽 聽
Multiple sources confirmed that they were involved in BNP politics, although they did not hold any party positions, he said.
The OC added that a gang of four snatched five bhari gold from Khalilur Rahman, general secretary of the Charigram Bazaar Committee, while he was on his way to Pabna on August 13.
Following the incident, Khalilur Rahman filed a case with the Shibalaya police, naming four individuals involved in the robbery.
Khalilur later identified the arrestees at the police station after which the three men were produced before the court on Tuesday.
