Bangladesh Women鈥檚 Red team, led by Nigar Sultana Joty, suffered an unexpected loss to the Under-15 boys team by 87 runs in the ongoing Women鈥檚 Challenge Cup at the BKSP-3 in Savar on Wednesday.听
Chasing 182, Women鈥檚 Red team were skittled out for just 94 runs in 38 overs despite having got a pretty good start.听
Ishma Tanjim and Sarmin Sultana were solid in their 50-run opening partnership in 15.1 overs, which ended when the latter was run out for 20.听
Sarmin鈥檚 wicket enticed a dramatic collapse into the Women鈥檚 Red innings as they lost four wickets for just three runs in that period.听
Left-arm spinner Alimul Islam trapped Ishma and Joty lbw in the space of four deliveries, while another left-arm spinner, Afridi Tariq, bowled Murshida Khatun.听
Sumaiya and Ritu Moni tried to rebuild with their partnership of 18 runs off 44 balls, but another collapse followed soon.听
The Women鈥檚 Red lost their last six wickets for just 23 runs to get bundled out with 12 overs still remaining in the match.听
Alimul took three for just 12, while AFM Jahin and Afridi each took two. Abdul Aziz and Abdullah shared two wickets.听
Earlier, U-15 boys posted 181-8 in 50 overs thanks to Afzal Hossain and captain Bayzid Bostami, who made 44 off 81 and 46 off 63, respectively.听
Afzal shared a 57-run partnership with Faiyaj Khan (21 off 65) for the third wicket, while Bayzid added 42 off 49 with Abdullah for the seventh wicket.听
The spin duo of Jannatul Ferdus and Sanjida Akhter each took two wickets for Women鈥檚 Red, while Marufa Akter, Fuara Begum, and Ritu each took one.听
The Women鈥檚 Challenge Cup is being held by the BCB in order to give the women鈥檚 team some game time ahead of the ICC Women鈥檚 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin on September 30.听
Bangladesh qualified for the marquee event after emerging second in the qualifier last April.听
