The Election Commission is set to begin hearings on objections and recommendations regarding the draft boundaries of parliamentary constituencies on August 24 as part of the preparations for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections.

The announcement was made on Monday through a notification signed by EC deputy secretary Mahbub Alam Shah.


EC officials said that the hearings, scheduled to continue until August 27, would be held at the EC headquarters at Agargaon in the capital with chief election commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin in the chair along with the four election commissioners and the EC secretary in attendance.

On July 30, the commission released a draft delimitation notification about all the 300 JS constituencies.

In order to bring about a balance among the constituencies in terms of voter number, Gazipur district was given an extra seat, raising its total seats to six, while Bagerhat鈥檚 seats were reduced to three from four.

Adjustments were also proposed in 39 other constituencies.

The Election Commission invited objections to the draft decisions by August 10, after which hearings were scheduled to review the submissions.

By the deadline, the commission received 1,760 objections relating to 83 constituencies.

According to the EC notification, on August 24, the opening day, hearings will cover objections to Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail and Ashuganj upazilas, and three unions of Bijoynagar upazila), Brahmanbaria-3 (Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila and the major portion of Bijoynagar upazila), and Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar upazila) constituencies; Comilla-1 (Daudkandi and Meghna upazilas), Comilla-2 (Homna and Titas upazilas), Comilla-6 (Sadar upazila, city corporation area and Comilla Cantonment area) , Comilla-9 (Lalmai and Laksam upazilas), Comilla-10 (Nangalcot and Monohorgonj upazilas) and Comilla-11 (Comilla Sadar south and Chauddagram upazilas) constituencies; as well as Noakhali-1(Chatkhil upaziala and a portion of Sonaimuri upazila), Noakhali-2 (Senbagh upaziala and a portion of Sonaimuri upazila), Noakhali-4 (Subarnachar upazila and a portion of Sadar upazila) and Noakhali-5 (Kabirhat and Kompaniganj upazilas and a portion of Sadar upazila), Chandpur-2 (Matlab South and Matlab North upazilas) and Chandpur-3 (Chandpur Sadar and Haimchar upazilas), Feni-3 (Sonagazi and Daganbhuiyan upazilas) constituencies, and Lakshmipur-2 (Raipur upazila and聽 a portion of Sadar upazila) and Lakshmipur-3 (a portion of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila and Sadar Municipality area) constituencies.

On August 25, the commission will hear cases from Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong, including Satkhira-3 (Kaligonj and Debhata upazilas) and Satkhira-4 (Assasuni and Shyamnagar upazilas), Jashore -3 (Sadar upazila excluding Basundia Union) and Jashore-6 (Keshabpur upazila), Bagerhat-1 (Fakirhat, Mollahat and Chitalmari upazilas), Bagerhat-2 (Sadar, Kachua, and Rampal upazilas) and Bagerhat-3 (Mongla, Morrelganj, and Sharankhola upazilas), Jhalkathi-1 (Rajapur and Kanthalia upazilas), Barguna-1 (Barguna Sadar, Amtali, and Taltoli upazilas) and Barguna-2 (Bamna, Patharghata and Betagi upazilas), Pirojpur-1 (Pirojpur Sadar, Nazirpur and Indurkani upazilas), Pirojpur-2 (Kawkhali, Bhandaria, and Nesarabad upazilas) and Pirojpur-3 (Mathbaria upazila), Chattogram-3 (Sandwip upazila), Chattogram-5 (Hathazari upazila and a portion of Chattogram City Corporation), Chattogram-8 (Boalkhali upazial and a portion of Chattogram City Corporation) and Chattogram-10 (a portion of Chattogram City Corporation), along with Khagrachari, Rangamati and Bandarban districts.

On August 26, hearings will take place for Manikganj-1(Daulatpur, Ghior, and Shivalaya upazilas), Manikganj-2 (Singair and Harirampur upazilas and a portion of Sadar upazila) and Manikganj-3 (A portion of Sadar upazila and Saturia upazila); Munshiganj-1(Sreenagar and Sirajdikhan upazilas), Munshiganj-2 (Louhajang and Tongibari upazilas) and Munshiganj-3 (Sadar and Gazaria upazilas), Gazipur-2 (a portion of Zagipur City corporation and a part of Sadar upazila), Gazipur-6 (a portion of Gazipur City Corporation), Narsingdi-3 (Shibpur upazila), Narsingdi-4 (Monohardi and Belabo upazilas) and Narsingdi-5 (Raipur upazila); Narayanganj-3 (Sonargaon and Bandar upazilas), Narayanganj-4 (a portion of Sadar upazila) and Narayanganj 5 (City Corporation area); and Dhaka-1 to 7, Dhaka-10 (Dohar, Nabanganj, Keraniganj, and Savar upazilas and Dhaka South City Corporation), Dhaka 14, 15, 16, 18 (Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka Cantonment area and Dhaka Airport Area) and Dhaka 19 (Part of Savar upazila, Savar Municipality and Savar Cantonment area).

On August 27, the commission will address objections from Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Faridpur and Sylhet.

Cases scheduled for that day include from Panchagarh-1 (Panchagarh Sadar, Tetulia and Atwari upazilas) and Panchagarh-2 (Boda and Debiganj upazila), Rangpur-1 (Gangachara upazila and a portion of Rangpur City Corporation), Kurigram-4 (Rowmari, Rajibpur and Chilmari upazilas), Sirajganj-2 (Kamarkhanda upazila and a portion of Sadar upazila), Sirajganj-5 (Belkuchi and Chowhali upazilas) and Sirajganj-6 (Shahjadpur upazila), Pabna-1 (Santhia upazila and a portion of Bera upazila), Tangail-6 (Delduar and Nagarpur upazilas), Jamalpur-2 (Islampur upazila), Kishoreganj-1 (Sadar and Hossainpur upazilas), Sylhet-1 (Sadar upazila and a part of Sylhet City Corporation), Faridpur-1 (Madhukhali, Boalmari and Alfadanga upazilas) and Faridpur-4 (Bhanga, Charbhadrasan and Sadarpur upazilas), Madaripur-2 (Rajoir and a part of Sadar upazila)and Madaripur-3 (Kalkini and Dasar upazilas and a part of Sadar upazila), and Shariatpur-2 (Naria and Bhedarganj upazilas) and Shariatpur-3 (Damudya and Gosairhat upazilas).
