A 30-year-old man was hacked to death allegedly by his father at Singra upazila in Natore on Saturday night following a family feud over his drug addiction.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, 30, son of Shahidul Islam of village Mohishmari under Chamari union of the upazila.
Police and local people said that Shariful had long been addicted to drugs, which often led to quarrels with his parents over money.
On Saturday afternoon, he got engaged in a heated argument with his father, Shahidul Islam, that continued till the night.
At one stage, Shahidul, in a fit of rage, attacked his son with a sharp weapon, hitting him on the neck, they said, adding that Shariful died on the spot.
Local people said that Shariful used to misbehave with his parents for money to buy drugs, and several arbitration meetings had been held in the past, but the disputes persisted.
Mominuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Singra police station, said that on information, police recovered the body and sent it to Natore General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
‘The father went into hiding following the incident. We are conducting drives to arrest him,’ he added.
