A metropolitan sessions judge court in Rajshahi on Sunday allowed the police to take the owner of a coaching centre and two of his associates into custody for interrogation for five days in a case filed over Saturday鈥檚 recovery of arms, explosives and drugs from their possession at the coaching centre in Rajshahi city.聽

Judge Mamunur Rashid of the court passed the order after the police had produced the trio before the court seeking a seven-day remand for each, said public prosecutor Ali Ashraf Zaman.

The accused are Montaserul Alam alias Onindo, an English teacher and the owner of the coaching centre, Doctor English, at Kadirganj in Rajshahi city, and his associates Md Robin and Md Faisal.

Onindo is the son of Bangladesh Nationalist Party鈥檚 Rajshahi city unit former vice-president Shafiul Alam Latku and a cousin of former Rajshahi city mayor and Awami League presidium member AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.

He was earlier arrested in connection with the cases of the Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Dhaka, and the murder of Rajshahi University professor AFM Rezaul Karim Siddique, but was released later as his name was not included in the charge sheets in either of the cases.

On Saturday morning, the members of the Bangladesh Army鈥檚 40 East Bengal (Mechanised) Battalion conducted a raid at the coaching centre at the Kadirganj area in Rajshahi city, and seized a large cache of firearms and raw materials for making explosives.

The army members detained the trio and handed them over to Boalia police and, later on the day, the police station鈥檚 sub-inspector Rezaul Karim filed a case against them under the Arms Act, the Explosives Substances Act, and the Narcotics Control Act Saturday night.
