
Leaders of Palestine Solidarity Committee, Bangladesh on Saturday protested against Israel’s recent decision to occupy Gaza and called on an immediate end to aggression and mass killings in Palestine.Â
The Israeli military on August 13 said that it had approved the framework for a new offensive in the Gaza Strip following Israel’s security cabinet called for the seizure of Gaza’s largest city, according to an Agence France-Presse report published on August 14.
Addressing a protest rally at Shahbagh, leaders of the Palestine Solidarity Committee, Bangladesh, a combine of some left leaning political parties, also condemned the ‘imperialist’ forces and the United States government for supporting the offensive.
Economist and former Jahangirnagar University professor Anu Muhammad criticised the international organisations concerned for their silence regarding Israel’s decision to take over Gaza.
‘Israel could not continue such offensive without the support of the US imperialist force,’ said Anu Muhammad, remarking that the weaker US imperialism was, the safer the world would be.
Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu said that common people around the world had raised their voices against Israel’s offensive and its decision for Gaza occupation. Â
‘Israel must stop aggression on Palestine,’ she demanded.
Chairing the rally, Harun Or Rashid, a member of the committee, said that what was happening in Palestine was not a war between two countries but it was a war against humanity.
He urged the Bangladesh government to stand firm against Israel’s recent decision to occupy Gaza.
Shaheed Biplobi O Desh Premik Smriti Sangsad president Hasan Fakri, Jatiya Gana Front chief coordinator Rajat Huda, Bangladesh Shamyabadi Andalan leader Belal Chowdhury, among others, addressed the rally.
Israel escalated its offensive since 2023 and killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, according to the Hamas-run Gaza’s health ministry, reported AFP.
