Women rights activists on Saturday iterated their call on the interim government to increase the reserved seats for women in the national parliament.

Their call came from a human chain formed in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh in Dhaka city in which they demanded 100 reserved seats for women in parliament which is 50 at present.

Nari Samhati, women front of Ganosamhati Andolan, organised the human chain with president Shamali Shill in chair.

Ganosamhati central leader Taslima Akher rejected a proposal of the consensus commission continuing with the current 50 reserved seats for women.

She said that the commission should settle for 100 reserved seats through discussions with the political parties.

Moreover political parties should give more women candidates to contest in the parliamentary elections, Taslima Akhter demanded.

Aparajita Deb, general secretary of the organisation, stressed that Nari Samhati would continue movement until rights of women were not realised.

Cultural activist Bithi Ghosh, academics Sayema Khatun, women activists Mahrukh Mohiuddin, Oarda Ashraf, actor Ritu Satter, Ganosamhati central leader Julhasnayeen Babu, among others, spoke at the human chain.
