
The Dhaka North City Corporation has sent letters to the relevant government agencies, urging them to prevent the sale, purchase, or change in land use of areas earmarked in the Detailed Area Plan for parks, playgrounds and waterbodies.
The letters, signed by DNCC administrator Mohammad Azaz, were sent on Thursday to the Ministry of Land, Ministry of Housing and Public Works, National Housing Authority, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, RAJUK in short, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners for land, sub-registrar offices, and Dhaka District Registrar office, said a DNCC press release issued on Friday.Â
The city corporation in its letters urged authorities to impose restrictions on land-use changes, enforce relevant tax collection regulations, and halt any sale or purchase of the land that have been designated for particular use in the RAJUK’s Detailed Area Plan for 2022–2035.
Earlier, at its 5th board meeting, the city corporation decided to install awareness raising signboards on those pieces of land.
Afterwards, till now it has already placed the signboards across about 150 acres of land which has been proposed for water-based park area in Satarkul, Badda and Sutivola near Aftabnagar, according to the press release.Â
Besides, work is underway to install signboards at DAP proposed reservoirs, parks, and playgrounds on land covering about 759 acres in Baunia, Senpara Parbata, Bishil, Paikpara, Nandarbag, Bara Sayek, Mirpur and Nawaber Bagh; 18.11 acres in Lalasarai area in Kafrul; 43.29 acres in Joar Sahara under the jurisdiction of the Cantonment Police Station; 587 acres in Mirpur; 185.23 acres in Badda-Vatara-Satarkul, Badda and Sutivola; 170.50 acres in Khilgaon’s Khilgaon Shohor area; 197.26 acres in Baunia of Turag; 24.61 acres in Pallabi’s Marul; and 71.26 acres in Dakshin Khan, Uttar Khan and Barua.
The DNCC believes that the city’s environment, biodiversity and residents’ quality of life would significantly improve, once these initiatives, covering nearly 1,500 acres of proposed reservoirs, parks and playgrounds, are implemented.
