The Border Guard Bangladesh arrested a man with $51,000 in a raid at the Mujibnagar border in Meherpur on Friday.

The arrested Masedul Haque, 38, is a resident of Khamarpara village in the upazila.


Lieutenant Colonel Md Nazmul Hasan, commander of Chuadanga–6 BGB, said that based on information, a BGB team led by Anandabas BOP AD Md Haider Ali took position approximately 200 yards inside Bangladesh from the main pillar 99 of Anandabas BOP.

 In the afternoon, BGB members saw a man coming from the zero line area by a bicycle moving suspiciously with a bag of grass and ordered him to stop, he added.

He said that when the man tried to escape, the patrol team chased him and arrested him.

Later, after searching the grass sacks , $51,000 wrapped in black scotch tape were recovered from five packets, he said.

A bicycle and a button mobile phone were seized from the arrested at that time.

The estimated market value of the recovered dollars and other items is Tk 61,98,540.

A case has been filed on this issue and the arrested has been handed over to Mujibnagar police station.
