
Dhaka University Shikkhak Samaj, a platform of the university teachers, on Thursday organised a public performance to mark the first anniversary of the July mass uprising.
The mass uprising ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.
Titled 鈥楲aal July: Katha Ko Awaj Uda鈥, the performance comprising plays, dances, songs and poem recitations was held at Aparajeyo Bangla on the university campus.
A discussion chaired by Professor Robayet Ferdous of the department of mass communication and journalism was also part of the programme.
Moderated by DU theatre and performance studies department associate professor Shahman Moishan, mass communication and journalism department associate professor Khorshed Alam, Institute of health economics director professor Shafiun Nahian Shimul, botany department assistant professor Kishwar Jahan Shethi and theatre and performance studies department associate professors Sudip Chakroborthy and Abul Basher Md Ziaul Haque Bhuyan spoke at the event.
Robayet Ferdous said that the people of the country should protest against monolithic narrative of any event and rise of any fascist after the student-led July mass uprising.
鈥楪raffiti 鈥淣ever Ever Again鈥 were created during the July mass uprising because a huge number of people were killed by the ousted regime and we do not want any more casualties like those,鈥 Robayet said, adding that people aspired for an inclusive state and unity was needed to build a democratic and inclusive country for the future generation.
Students of different departments rendered songs, recited poems and performed group dances.
Theatre Wave staged their recent play 鈥楳ukhomukhi鈥 and Fourth Wall Theatre staged 鈥404: Naam Khunje Paoya Jayni鈥 at the event.
Mukhomukhi was written and directed by Dhiman Chandra Barman and 404: Naam Khunje Paoya Jayni written and directed by Md Lahul Mia.
Md Ziaul Haque Bhuyan recited his own poem dedicated to the July uprising.
