Train communications with Dhaka and the country鈥檚 northern part were disrupted for around 40 minutes on Thursday morning as a group of diploma engineering students blocked the rail track in Gazipur.
The students put the barricade for what they claimed were the scheduled exams for the post of section engineer in Dhaka Metro Rail which were stayed following a court order.
They halted the Banalata Express from Rajshahi to Dhaka, disrupting train services and causing suffering to commuters.
The students gathered around 10:00am near Paschim Burushia area on Joydebpur-Shimultoli Road and positioned themselves on the railway tracks, halting the train around 11:00am.
The Banalata Express was allowed to run at 11:40am after negotiations.
The protesters alleged that the High Court stayed the scheduled exams of August 13 and 15 for the post of section engineer after BSc engineering degree holders submitted a petition seeking a stay order in this regard earlier.
Joydebpur Railway station master Abul Hossain said train services were restored after the students cleared the tracks.
