The department of public health at American International University-Bangladesh organised a seminar titled Developing Research Skills and the Role of Primary Health Care in Global Health at the AIUB in Dhaka on Monday.

The event focused on the importance of public health research and the global impact of primary health care, said a press release.


Dr Mostafizur Rahman, senior manager at the National Health Service in the United Kingdom, emphasised the crucial role of primary health care as the backbone of global health systems.

He highlighted how robust primary care helps reduce health disparities and improve access to cost-effective and equitable health services worldwide.

He underscored the critical need of strengthening PHC system in Bangladesh whereby all the basic human health needs were available under one roof giving services not only by doctors and nurses but also having laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, dental, nutrition, vaccination, mental health, counselling and health promotion services.

Dr Rakia Ishra, assistant professor at the department of public health at AIUB, served as the first speaker.

The seminar was organized under the guidance and leadership of Dr Muhammad Wasiful Alam, head of the department of public health along with the collaborative efforts of the departmental team.

AIUB vice-chancellor Professor Saiful Islam, pro-VC Professor Md Abdur Rahman and dean of the faculty of arts and social sciences Professor Tazul Islam, among others, attended the seminar.
