The leaders of the Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad on Tuesday urged the interim government to refrain from leasing out the New Mooring Container Terminal at Chattoram Port to foreign companies.

They made the demand at a rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.


Addressing the rally, SKOP joint convener Abdul Kader Hawlader said that the interim government, as per the suggestions of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, was going to lease out the management of the New Mooring Container Terminal of the port to two foreign companies.

Jatiyatabadi Sraamik Dal president Anwar Hossain said that the containers at the Chattogram Port were being operated well by the workers of the country.

That is why, he said, there was no need to lease out the terminal to foreign companies.

Samajtatrik Sramik Front president Razequzzaman Ratan warned that labour bodies would wage tougher movements if the government failed to refrain from implementing their plans.

SKOP leaders Chowdhury Ashiqul Islam, Saifuzzaman Badsha, Badal Khan, Ahsan Habib Bulbul, and Shamim Ara, among others, addressed the rally.

The rally was followed by a protest procession聽that paraded different city roads.
