A police constable was seriously injured as muggers stabbed him at Kutubkhali Bus Standat in the capital’s Jatarabari area early Tuesday.

Constable Babul Chandra Roy, 40, posted at Brahmanbaria sadar police station, came to Dhaka through a bus at about 4:30am on Tuesday for giving testimony to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, said Jatrabari police sub-inspector Ifat Ahmed.

‘We have recovered him from the spot and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 6:00am,’ the SI said, adding that muggers attacked him with sharp weapons when the constable refused to part with his mobile phone and purse.

He said that the constable sustained critical injuries in his left hand and left leg.

Muggers fled after snatching his mobile phone and purse.

SI Zahid said that they launched drives to arrest the muggers who stabbed their fellow.
