The orientation of the undergraduate (honours) students of Pirojpur Science and Technology University for the academic year 2024-25 was held on Sunday at the auditorium of social development organisation Dak Diye Jai.
Vice-chancellor Professor Md Shahidul Islam presided over the programme where the vice-chancellor of Gopalganj Science and Technology University, Professor Hossain Uddin Shekhar, was present as chief guest.
At the beginning of the programme, condolences were expressed over the deaths of the students and the people killed in the July Uprising and a moment of silence was observed in their memory.
Later, the dean of the Faculty of Science, Akhter Hossain, greeted and welcomed the new students on behalf of the university, said a press relase.
In his speech as chief guest, Professor Hossain Uddin Shekhar said that the university is a new university. Therefore, let no one have any inferiority complex in their minds. He urged the students to use every moment of their lives and dedicate themselves to the welfare of the country.
Vice-chancellor Professor Md Shahidul Islam congratulated the students for winning the admission battle and gaining admission to the public university. He expressed his determination to keep the university campus free from politics.
Praying for the salvation of the souls of the martyrs who sacrificed themselves in the July Uprising, the vice-chancellor of PBPU said that students should play a leading role in realising the dream of the July Revolution.
Professor Shahidul Islam expressed his hope that the students would start classes on the permanent campus before they finish their student life and arrange another residential hall for the students.
The programme was also addressed by the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Gopalganj Science and Technology University, Md Anisur Rahman, chairman of the Department of Statistics, Kamal Hossain, chairman of the Department of Statistics, PBPU, Md Musa Khan, assistant professor of the Department of Mathematics and provost of the temporary student hall, MM Ayub Hussain, chairman of the Department of Psychology, Sharmin Islam Nipa, among others.
Welcoming the freshers, Asif Akhtar of the Department of Statistics, Nusrat Jahan Rupa of the Department of Psychology, and Samiul Haider of the Department of Mathematics, Sheikh Saeed Anwar of the Department of CSE, and Md Jasim Uddin from among the guardians spoke.
Earlier, the programme began with the recitation of the Quran and the reading of the Gita. The freshers were welcomed with floral greetings by the university and the introduction ceremony of teachers, officers and employees was held.
