Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal is set to return to competitive cricket with the forthcoming NCL T20, according to the chairman of the tournament committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Akram Khan.Ìý

Tamim, who confirmed his international retirement in January, had suffered a massive heart attack in March during a match in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.Ìý

The left-handed opening batter had to undergo immediate surgery and was out of the game for the foreseeable future.Ìý

But now after almost six months, the 36-year-old is set to return to the field with the domestic T20 tournament, which is expected to begin in mid-September.Ìý

Apart from Tamim, Akram also confirmed the availability of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah in the tournament.Ìý

‘I hope that all three will play. Tamim has talked with Chittagong,’ said Akram after a meeting at Mirpur on Thursday.Ìý

‘Most probably Mushfiq requested the selectors that he wants to play for Sylhet. Riyad [Mahmudullah] hasn’t said anything like this, but definitely he will play. He should play,’ he added.Ìý

The three players have already retired from international cricket, although Mushfiq is only playing in the Test format.
