
The High Court on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to demolish all illegal structures built in the Gumti River within the next six months.
A High Court division bench, comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Bashir Ullah, passed the order while disposing of a writ petition regarding illegal occupation of the river.
Lawyer Eklas Uddin Bhuiyan, the writ petitioner, said that the court also instructed the authorities to report back on the eviction progress once completed.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer Manzill Murshid, also the president of rights and environmental organisation Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh, moved the petition on behalf of the writ petitioner.
Eklas Uddin Bhuiyan expressed hope that the authorities would begin implementing the court鈥檚 directive without delay.
