Teachers, students, and staff of Rabindra University, Bangladesh staged a street play and sit-in protest on the Dhaka-Pabna Highway, demanding immediate approval of the Development Project Proposal for the university鈥檚 long-awaited permanent campus, on Monday.
The demonstration took place in front of the temporary academic building-3 from 10:00am to 12:00pm, with participants expressing frustration over the nine-year delay in finalising the campus construction, said a press release.
Protesters said that despite repeated appeals, the government had yet to approve the DPP, which required Tk 519.15 crore鈥攁n amount revised multiple times over the years.
Since its establishment in 2016, Rabindra University has operated from temporary facilities, severely hindering academic and administrative operations.
Protesters questioned why the DPP remains stalled despite fulfilling all necessary conditions.
The agitation will escalate in the coming days as protesters are set to hold sit-in and protest songs events on Wednesday, half-day administrative strike and sit-in on Thursday and full-day strike, seminar, and mass sit-in on Sunday.
