
The government has revised up the risk allowance for field-level police personnel by maximum 20 per cent and minimum over 5 per cent.
Constables, nayeks, assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors, sergeants and traffic sergeants/inspectors have been receiving monthly risk allowance since 2016 based on their job length.
A Finance Division circular issued in the past week fixing the new monthly rate at Tk 1,800 from previous Tk 1,500 for the constables who are yet to complete five years in service.聽聽聽聽聽
The new rate for the constables serving for more than 20 years has been fixed at Tk 3,600 from previous Tk 3,400.
Similarly, the allowances for nayeks, ASIs, SIs and TSIs have also seen an upward revision based on first 5 years, 5-10 years, 10-15 years, 15-20 years, and above 20 years in job length, according to the circular.
Of the 13 ranks in police, these police positions hold bottom five tiers.
They, however, hold the major portion of the force numbering at around 2,13,000.
Of the overall number, over 1,00,000 constables and 11,500 SIs were appointed during the unbroken regime between 2009 and 2024 of the ousted聽 Awami League.
The increase in risk allowance for police has been made against the backdrop that the morale of police is running low following the ouster of the AL regime in the wake of the mass uprising one year back.
Police were used brutally by the ousted regime to clamp down on the student-led mass uprising, causing deaths of over 1,500 protesters.
Over the past one year, volatility in the law and order has been persisting with the police recording 341 murder cases across the country in May, 336 in April, 316 in March, and 300 in February.
A total of 177 robbery cases were reported across the country in May, 149 in April, 171 in March, and 153 in February, the PHQ data show.
