A 42-year-old housewife was murdered by slitting throat at her house at Pirganj in Rangpur, police said on Friday.
The deceased, Asma Begum, was wife of Malaysian expatriate Saju Mia of Bhabanipur village under the upazila.
People of the area and the police said that the victim had been living in the house alone for a long time as her lone daughter was married and husband was out of the country.
Saju from Malaysia had been trying to reach Asma out over the mobile phone since Thursday evening but failed.
Later, he phoned neighbours and asked to enquire, who found her blood-stained body lying on the floor around 12:30am.
Officer-in-charge of Pirganj police station Shafiqul Islam said that on information, the recovered the body and sent it to Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Breaking open the boundary gate of the house, the miscreants stormed into the house and killed her slitting throat, he suspected.
An investigation was under way to arrest those involved in the murder, the OC added.
