
Leaders of the Ganosamhati Andolan on Friday called on all political parties to maintain unity for implementing the spirit of the July uprising for establishing a democratic country and also establishing rights of the people.
They made the call at a rally organised by the political party at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital Dhaka, marking the first anniversary of the July uprising that ousted the authoritarian Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.
The party’s chief coordinator, Zonayed Saki, chaired the programme.
Ayesha Begum, mother of July uprising martyr Zulfikar Ahmad Sakil, inaugurated the rally.
Saki urged all political parties to maintain unity for implementing the spirit of the July uprising and making the country corruption free.
He called on the interim government to take more steps to implement the spirit of the July uprising and give the uprising martyrs and wounded state honour.
‘Ganosamhati will continue its movements for establishing the spirit of the July uprising,’ Saki said.
Ganosamhati Andolan executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel said, ‘We must formulate a democratic constitution for establishing a democratic country and without which rights of the people would not be established.’
The party’s central leader, Firoz Ahmed, said that the interim government had failed to give proper respect to the families of the July martyrs and ensure proper treatments to wounded in the uprising.
Central leader Taslima Akhter said that the interim government had failed to establish rights of the working class people.
Central leaders Monir Uddin Pappu, Hasan Maruf Rumi, Bachchu Bhuiyan, Dipak Kumar Roy, Abdur Rashid Nilu, Alif Dewan and Anjan Das, among others, spoke at the rally.
Wounded student leader Mohammad Liton said that he did not get any treatment facilities from the government.
Some family members of the July martyrs also spoke at the rally. They alleged that they did not get proper recognition as family members of the martyrs.
Braving the bad weather, a huge number party leaders and activists attended the rally.
The Ganosamhati Andolan took different programmes countrywide to mark the first anniversary of the July uprising.
