
The prices of chicken and eggs witnessed a fresh hike on capital鈥檚 retail markets on Friday, with vegetable鈥檚 price remaining unchanged as the past week.
Broiler chicken was sold at Tk 160-170 a kilogram at neighbourhood markets, which was Tk 150 last week.
Sonali chicken was sold at Tk 280-300 a kilogram, which was about Tk 260-280 a kilogram in the retail markets.
However, the broiler chicken was sold at Tk 150 and Sonali was at Tk 250-260 on wholesale market like Karwan Bazar.
On retail markets like Kallyanpur Natunm Bazar and Agargaon Taltola Bazar, eggs were sold for Tk 130-135 a dozen, up from last week鈥檚 Tk 120-125 a dozen.
Kabir Hossain, a trader from Kallyanpur Natun Bazar, said that due to excessive rain in the past weeks, supply chain for eggs and chicken was disrupted, which impacted the price.
The prices of almost all types of vegetables ranged from Tk 40 to Tk 80 a kilogram, while green chillies were sold at over Tk 200 a kilogram on retail market and Tk 160-180 a kilogram on the wholesale level, such as Karwan Bazar.
The price of green chillies was Tk 80-120 a kilogram about a month ago.
Traders said that due to heavy rains across the country for several weeks, the supply of green chillies and other vegetables declined significantly.
Mohammad Sakib, who sells only green chilli at Karwan Bazar, said that due to heavy rain, significant amount of green chillies were spoiled at production level, leading to a supply shortage on
the markets and impacted the prices.
On Friday, onions were sold at Tk聽60 a kilogram, local garlic at Tk聽140 a kilogram, while its imported variety was sold at Tk聽200 a kilogram at the
Karwan Bazar.
Spiny gourd was sold at Tk 50-60 a kilogram, the same as last week, while snake gourd, loofah and pointed gourd were sold at Tk 50-60 a kilogram on the market.
The price of lady fingers was Tk 40-50 a kilogram, while yardlong beans, bitter gourds and aubergines were sold for Tk 50-70 a kilogram.
Red chillies were sold at Tk 350-400 a kilogram, depending on the variant.
Cucumbers were sold for Tk 80-100 a kilogram, while taro was sold at Tk 50 a kilogram.
The price of potatoes has聽increased slightly to Tk 25-30 a kilogram.
However, the price of the aforementioned vegetables was about Tk 10-20 higher per unit on local markets.
Some vegetables that are currently out of season were still available on the market, but at significantly higher prices.
Among them, beans were selling for Tk 300-400 a kilogram, coriander leaves for Tk 350-400 a kilogram, while cauliflower and cabbage were being sold at Tk 80-100 apiece.
The price of Miniket rice ranged from Tk 75 to Tk 86 a kilogram, depending on the variant.
Beef was sold for Tk 750-780 a kilogram on Friday, while mutton was sold for Tk 1,100-1,250 a kilogram.
Due to a sufficient supply, the fish market has remained relatively stable.
Packaged soya bean oil was sold at Tk 189 a litre and a 5-litre bottle of the item at Tk 922, whereas the prices of unpackaged soya bean oil and palm oil were Tk 169 a litre.
