A Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation double-decker bus rammed into a pillar of the Elevated Expressway at Farmgate in Dhaka city on Tuesday, causing a brief traffic disruption on the busy road.
The accident occurred between 11:30am and 12:00 noon, Tejgaon police officer-in-charge Mobarak Hossen said, adding that two to three persons might have been injured in the incident.
‘Two to three individuals might be hurt in the accident but no one was seriously injured and no one came to the police to report,’ he said.
The collision briefly disrupted traffic on the crucial thoroughfare, but the damaged bus was quickly moved from the road, OC Mobarak said.
‘We initially seized the bus but later handed it over to the BRTC. We have submitted an official application asking to cancel the driving licence of the driver,’ he said.
Taking legal action against the driver was underway, added the police official.
With only a few passengers on the top deck, no one was seriously hurt, said Sujan, adding that some passengers jumped out through the windows to escape.
A video footage of the incident went viral on the social media.
The footage showed the double-decker rammed into the pillar and some passengers were seen jumping out through the windows to escape.
The bus struck the pillar, smashing the roof on the upper deck, partially collapsing it.
