Border Guard Bangladesh in a drive seized 31 gold bars worth Tk 5.83 crore at Maheshpur border in Jhenaidah on Saturday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, a BGB patrol team from Cumillapara BOP conducted a raid in the border area around 5.30am. Sensing the presence of the BGB men, the smuggler fled the spot, leaving three pots. BGB members recovered the gold bars weighing 4,303 grams from the pots, a BGB-58 Battalion press release said.
Maheshpur BGB-58 Battalion commander Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Alam said that surveillance had been further increased in the border areas. 鈥楻egular operations against smugglers will continue.鈥�
Officer-in-charge of Maheshpur police station Sajjadur Rahman said that legal action would be taken in this regard.
