
The literary award ‘Kali o Kalam Tarun Kabi o Lekhak Puraskar’ for 2024 has gone to five young writers and poets at a ceremony held in Dhaka city.
The award has gone to poet Ostrick Rishi, writer Shazed Ul Haq Abir, researcher Muhammod Farid Hasan, poet-writer Swaralipi and writer Niaz Mahmood.
They received the award at an event held at the Bengal Shilpalay at Dhanmondi on Saturday.
Ostrick Rishi awarded for the book titled ‘Satitaloy’ in poetry category; Shazed Ul Haq Abir for ‘Nirbachito Debdut’ in the fiction category, Muhammod Farid Hasan for ‘Satabarshe Cha-Shramik Andalan: Deadline 20 May 1921’ in research category, Swaralipi for ‘Sgai Fort Escape’ in War of Liberation and Revolution category; and Niaz Mahmood for ‘Tilkumarer Jatra’ in children’s literature.
Professor emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury was present as chief guest at the awards ceremony, presided over by Kali o Kalam editorial board president professor Syed Manzoorul Islam.
City Bank Limited managing director Mashrur Arefin, Kali o Kalam editorial board member Luva Nahid Choudhury, and Kali o Kalam publisher Abul Khair were present at the ceremony.
Serajul Islam Choudhury said that a new journey began for the award recipients which would inspire writers.
‘Readers also have some responsibilities because they are the main patrons of literature,’ said the professor.Â
Each of the winners received a crest, certificate and prize money of Tk 2 lakh.
Literature and culture-based monthly magazine Kali o Kalam introduced the award in 2008 to inspire young writers and poets.
The IFIC Bank Limited and Kali o Kalam jointly organised the awards ceremony from 2020 to 2023. This year City Bank and Kali o Kalam organised the event.
