To promote financial literacy and inspire youth engagement in the banking sector, Prime Bank PLC, in collaboration with the SUST Career Club, organised a seminar titled ‘Financial Inclusion: Engaging and Inspiring Youth in Banking’ at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
Held at the university’s mini auditorium, the event drew the participation of over 250 students from various academic disciplines.
The primary aim of the seminar was to raise awareness among students about the banking sector, introduce them to the concept of financial inclusion, and open avenues for exploring careers in banking and finance. It also provided an engaging platform to discuss future readiness and the importance of developing employable and entrepreneurial skills in today’s competitive world.
The event was graced by Nazeem A Choudhury, deputy managing director and head of consumer and SME banking division of Prime Bank, as the key speaker.
In his keynote address, he emphasized the need for students to go beyond academic excellence by enhancing their digital literacy, language proficiency, communication, and presentation skills.
‘The core purpose of such sessions is to provide proper guidance in preparing students for the future. Cultivating the habit of public speaking and articulating one’s thoughts will help students become more confident and capable,’ he remarked.
Additional remarks were delivered by Shaila Abedin, senior executive vice-president and head of liability, and M M Mahbub Hasan, head of financial inclusion and school banking.
Both speakers underscored the vital role of youth empowerment and financial literacy in achieving inclusive and sustainable economic progress. They highlighted how Prime Bank is actively working to expand access to financial services and nurture the next generation of leaders and professionals.
As part of the initiative, students were introduced to the ‘Prime Youth Account’, a student-friendly banking product designed to encourage early financial responsibility. Attendees were given the opportunity to open accounts on the spot and experience firsthand the benefits of modern banking.
The event was also attended by distinguished guests from the university, including Md Sajedul Karim, pro vice-chancellor of SUST, as well as Professor Md Mozammel Haque, club advisor of the SUST Career Club. Their presence reinforced the value of industry-academia collaboration in preparing students for real-world challenges.
In his closing remarks, Md. Humayun Kabir, regional head of Sylhet, expressed sincere appreciation to the university administration, faculty members, and students. He reiterated Prime Bank’s strong commitment to youth engagement, financial literacy, and inclusive development as part of its broader social responsibility.
Prime Bank and SUST also expressed mutual interest in expanding collaborative efforts in the future to better equip the youth with knowledge, skills, and opportunities that contribute to national progress.
