The second edition of the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup was postponed around an hour after the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation announced a 15-member squad for the tournament on Saturday.

The Women’s Kabaddi World Cup, which was last held in Patna, India, in 2012, was scheduled to be held in Hyderabad, India, from August 3 to 10, 2025.


But the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India confirmed the postponement of the tournament with a letter to the Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation on Saturday.Ìý

‘Due to limited availability of time in hand for execution of the tournament, in best interest of the sport it is hereby decided to postponed the 2nd Women's Kabaddi World Cup 2025.The revised dates shall be announced soon,’ said the letter.Ìý

Bangladesh announced the squad, naming Ruplai Akter as the captain, and they were scheduled to leave for India on August 1.

In preparation for the competition, Bangladesh started their training camp in February this year under two local coaches, Shahnaz Parvin Maleka and Arduzzaman Munshi, at the Riya Gope Women’s Sports Complex in the city.

The women’s team also played their first-ever Kabaddi Test series in Nepal in April as part of their preparation for the world event.
