A new platform uniting public and private university teachers named University Teachers’ Link is set to launch at the Teacher-Student Centre of the University of Dhaka today, upholding the spirit of the student-led July mass uprising.
One of the organisers of the platform, Mohammad Bilal Hossain, a Jagannath University history professor, said that the platform would be founded on the spirit of 1947, 1971 and 2024.
‘The core principles of the platform are knowledge, integrity, dignity and freedom,’ he said, adding that they would like to focus on improving the quality of education and research, safeguarding
the dignity of teachers, ensuring academic freedom and addressing issues related to the education sector.
He also mentioned, ‘Since we announced the formation of the platform on July 15, the overwhelming response from teachers of both public and private universities has been very encouraging. Many have already expressed a keen interest to join and work collectively through this platform.’
‘We firmly believe that the longstanding challenges in our education sector can be resolved through such united efforts,’ he said.
According to organisers, a 51-member central convening committee will also be announced at the ceremony, with DUÂ Islamic history and culture chairperson Professor Atiar Rahman Biswas as convener.
