Professor Md Maksud Helali, a retired teacher of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and freedom fighter, formally took charge as the new vice-chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Friday evening.
He assumed office at 6:30pm at KUET鈥檚 administrative building, confirmed deputy registrar Abdur Rahman.
Professor Helali is expected to begin regular duties from Saturday.
His appointment, approved by the president and chancellor, was announced on Thursday through a notification from the secondary and higher education division of the ministry of education under Section 10(1) of the KUET Act, 2003.
KUET had been under administrative paralysis for five months following a clash in February 2025 over demand to ban student politics on the campus. The clash left over 100 injured and the dismissal of the then vice-chancellor and pro-vice-chancellor on April 26.
