The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Tuesday imposed a travel ban on Dilip Kumar Agarwala, managing director of Diamond World, and Enamul Haque Khan, former president of Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association, and their family members over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through gold smuggling.

The order was issued by court judge Md Jakir Hossain following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Rezaul Karim.

In the petition, the ACC stated that an inquiry was under way into allegations of amassing a huge amount of illegal wealth through smuggling by Dilip Kumar Agarwala and Enamul Haque Khan Dolon.

The ACC argued that if the accused were allowed to leave the country, the probe might be hampered.

The court order also includes a travel ban on Dilip’s wife Sobita Agarwala, children Yash Agarwala and Achol Agarwala, Enamul’s wife Sharmeen Khan, and children Alif Imran Khan and daughter Labeeba Nisarat Khan.

According to the petition, Dilip Kumar Agarwala, also a member of the Awami League’s central sub-committee on industry and commerce, is currently in jail in connection with a separate case.

On September 4, 2024, Dilip was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion in Dhaka’s Gulshan area. He also faces multiple charges related to violent attacks during anti-discrimination protests.

Earlier, on April 11 this year, Enamul Haque Khan was expelled from BAJUS.
